Templer knights

The area of Pirovac, rich in history and cultural heritage, also bears traces of the presence of the Knights Templar, one of the most famous orders of medieval knights. The Templars had a significant presence in the region, especially due to the proximity of their stronghold in Vrana, once a very important administrative center of this area, and in the Middle Ages, their important station on the route to the Holy Land during the Crusades. The Knights Templar, as part of a military monastic organization, passed through these regions on their way to the Holy Land, and according to tradition, the Templars used the nearby Lokva Benča pond to water their horses before continuing their journey.

Although historical records of the Templars' presence in Pirovac and its surroundings are limited, legend and local tradition often remind us of their influence and the trace they left in these regions. Today, this historical connection to the Templars adds a deeper layer of interest and mystery to the rich history of Pirovac.
