After a successful first year, the gastro-cultural project "Taste like... Marenda" kicked off its second season this Saturday with the first marenda in Šibenik. This year’s edition offers a rich program: in addition to the inevitable marendas and the smells of homemade cuisine, visitors can expect a fantastic music program, educational workshops for children and adults, and stands with products from local farms and creatives.
The goal of the project is to preserve and revive the culture of marenda – this important part of Dalmatian daily life – and highlight the values of indigenous gastronomy and customs of the Šibenik-Knin County. The event begins in Šibenik at Mala Loža, and then will move to different parts of the county on the first weekend of each month – from Zlarin and Skradin to Primošten and, of course, Pirovac.
Pirovac is a town that welcomes 33,000 visitors annually, who spend 310,000 overnight stays. Visitors stay in Pirovac on average from a week to 10 days. According to the tourism development strategy of Pirovac, we are a destination for family tourism offering something traditional, indigenous, and authentic. That’s why we are excited that one of this year’s marendas will be held in our town. Pirovac is primarily known for its domestic olive oil. Pirovac olive growers win gold medals at both world and national competitions. We also have several good winemakers, taverns, and restaurants, which we will connect at the marenda on July 5th, in the town center – added Igor Bergam, director of the Pirovac Tourist Board.
See you in Pirovac – July 5th – at a marenda that smells like childhood, homemade olive oil, and good wine! It will be a day for pleasant company, enjoying the tastes of childhood, and celebrating everything that makes our region special – tradition, togetherness, and authentic Dalmatian cuisine.
